044: Robert DeLong

This is a guest post from the inimitably impassionate Meghan. She’ll be bring us regular updates on the music-world with a Left Coast take from her current home in Portland. To get your fill of music nonsense and passionate rants about New Girl, follow her on Twitter.

Rather than an album review this week – I wanted to give more of an artist heads up. As Sasquatch Music Festival here in the Pacific Northwest quickly approaches, the months between February and May are, for me, spent mostly researching the lineup from top to bottom. Each year that I’ve attended, I’ve looked back upon the lineup a half year later to realize most of my current favorite artists had been on the bill and I had nothing of a clue. This year, I am specifically determined to prevent that from happening.

036: Frightened Rabbits – Pedestrian Verse

I thought it only appropriate to write my first HowManyBeards music blurb about a band that I have been friend-losing-ly obsessed with for the past three months. And this is no exaggeration. One of my friends actually installed an app on Google Chrome that automatically blocks any of my posts with the words “Frightened Rabbit,” “Frightened Rabbits,” “Frabbit,” or “Frabbits” from his news feed, and replaces them with photos of cats.

011: Friday Jams – Letters Home

Letters Home – Take Your Time 4/5

A long time ago, in a small southern university town I was lured to a bar to see a friend of mine perform with his new band. That band was Look Mexico. That show was awesome. And I went to see them play as often as I could. My friend in the band, Josh Mikel, was their drummer. I even watched him crack a cymbal mid-set at one of their shows.

008: Friday Jam – Natural Anthem

Sometimes I get a little sad when I think about the fact that there will never be another Postal Service Album. Other times I realize that after this album being wrapped in a decade of nostalgia nothing could ever come close to it.

Have a great weekend, kids.
